A questão da usina nuclear em Itacuruba.

Abstract

The report presented here emerges from a context in which the world has lived with the scourge of Covid-19 and the Pernambuco municipality of Itacuruba and region with the imminent threat of installing a nuclear power plant. When addressing the issue of the nuclear power plant in Itacuruba, we compare the political decision combined with a broad judicial action led by the Federal Government and the Attorney General's Office with the plural mobilization of opposition. The research was predominantly documental and bibliographical. The general objective of the work was to demonstrate that the population of Itacuruba, when joining with other social actors in the mobilization against the nuclear power plant, demonstrated a great environmental awareness and the rights of indigenous people and quilombolas. Three focuses of study: 1- the political decision and the actions directed towards the realization of the nuclear project in the Municipality of Itacuruba; 2- the multiple mobilization against the nuclear intent and the unique participation of the Catholic Church and ; 3- the way in which the population of Itacuruba relates the nuclear project to past events such as the construction of the Itaparica Hydroelectric Power Plant. We conclude that an anti-democratic posture tends to disrespect or despise the environment and ethnic-racial minorities. The product is a digital book (E-book) with a markedly informative character without neglecting the didactic pretension of a historical reflection impregnated with environmental education.
