Refuncionalização e patrimônio cultural: na fé, cruzamos a Avenida Dantas Barreto.
(UNICAP, 2025-06-30) Silva, Rosane Maria Catanho

The present work aims to show the development of the “Homem da Meia-Noite” group in 1932, which initially emerges as a “troça” and later becomes a club. Founded by a party of skilled workers, the group provided the public with great spectacles even without large budgets. With parades made up by beautiful richly decorated floats, in addition to the giant puppet and the orchestra, which paraded through the hills of the Olinda Historical Site in the 1930s. The present work aims to contribute to the historiography of the studied carnival group, which became an icon of the street carnival of Pernambuco. To understand this trajectory, newspaper articles published at the time and photographs depicting Olinda and the Momo festivities were used as sources. The sources were analyzed and worked based on bibliographic research, through the reading and analysis of books, scientific articles and dissertations. The objective was to study the society of the time in relation to its culture, customs and representations, bringing to light mainly this emblematic character of the street carnival of Pernambuco, and who consolidated himself in the historic city of Olinda, enchanting the public and contributing effectively to the success of the carnival on the slopes of Cidade Alta. The timeline of the present research starts in 1932, the foundation year of the Homem da Meia-Noite, and concludes in 1939. The result of the research will be presented in the form of a digital book aimed at the general public.

This work analyzes the creation process of an artistic and cultural movement called Forró, conceived by composers and lyricists Zé Dantas and Humberto Teixeira, and by performer, composer and lyricist Luiz Gonzaga. It also includes significant contributions from co-founders Jackson do Pandeiro and Pedro Sertanejo. The research investigated how Forró was able to express, promote and consolidate a Brazilian northeastern country identity. To this end, the methodology of documentary history was used, analyzing personal collections, institutional documents, phonographic sources, magazines and newspapers, delimiting the period from 1947 to 1966 as a chronological framework. This is the time when the first phonographic record began, through the labels of 78 rpm records, of a musical subgenre that would later be considered part of the Forró genre. It ended in the stage in which record companies began to stop identifying, on the labels and covers of Long Plays, the musical subgenres linked to Forró. As part of the analysis, this study was based on the discourses recorded in three emblematic songs composed by the movement's protagonists. The results of this research indicated that Forró emerged as a response to the demands of a growing community of migrants from the Northeast. These migrants, attracted by the process of urbanization and industrialization, settled in metropolises such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. These migrants played fundamental roles in building the social and economic structures of cities, but faced social and cultural invisibility. In this context, Forró became a space of resistance and valorization, challenging pre-established norms and proposing new perspectives on social, historical and cultural issues, promoting significant changes in society at the time. Through Forró, these migrants negotiated space and visibility, inserting their traditions and knowledge into the urban universe. As a result of this research, a blog called “Forró”, accessible through the electronic address: https://salatielcamarao.blogspot.com/, was created to promote this artistic and cultural movement. The target audience includes members of the forró community, researchers, and students in the areas of history, art (music and dance), sociology, and cultural studies, with the aim of fostering knowledge and appreciation of this Brazilian cultural heritage.

In this work, I analyzed the communications sent by Judges from Outside the Province of Pernambuco to the Governor and Captain General of the same Province, in the period from 1817 to 1824. Our research is based on documents held in the Jordão Emerenciano State Public Archive – APEJE, archived under the code JF – 02, which contains the correspondence referred to from the period from 1817 to 1834. Our time frame was carefully thought out to contemplate the period of greatest effervescence in the political-administrative scenario of the Province of Pernambuco and Portugal, but with repercussions in Brazil and in Pernambuco. During this period, we had the Revolution of Pernambuco, in 1817; the liberal Revolt of Porto, in 1820 and the Confederation of Ecuador, in 1824, with its epicenter in the Province of Pernambuco, spreading to other Provinces in the Northeast region of Brazil. Our intention was to reveal the positions of Judges from Outside the Province of Pernambuco in relation to these political movements. During the study, we found that Vila de Goiana was used as the general headquarters of the rulers of Pernambuco, where Juiz de Fora played an important role in the administrative and military spheres, as a strong arm of the Government. We also noticed that during periods of calm, magistrates were focused on their daily activities. Even so, their daily lives were not limited to the judiciary, but also to the administrative issues of the town or city. In general, the correspondence deals with arrests, lawsuits, investigations, requests for various materials, public order, accountability, requests for money to pay the Military Forces and other matters, all very much in line with everyday life and political movements. -social of the time. In the end, we offer society, as a result of our research work, a catalog of around 270 correspondences studied within our time frame.

In this report I present a social perspective of crime in Recife between 1842 and 1850. At that time, Recife had undergone many social and urban transformations that gave a supposed air of progress to the city. However, misery, black slavery and social inequalities were present. We understand the criminal practices of the enslaved as mechanisms of resistance and the Criminal Code is the result of the logic of power relations, hence the use of quotation marks in the term "illegal" when referring to such practices, in the title of this work. We problematized the concept of freedom and sought to give meaning to the color classifications present in the documentation studied. We used several authors as theoretical references, among them, Sidney Chalhoub, Marcus J. M. de Carvalho, Raimundo Arraes, João José Reis, Eduardo Silva, Walter Fraga and Wellington Barbosa da Silva. The research used the Diário de Pernambuco and Civil Police reports as sources. Our didactic-pedagogical product is a podcast. A modern and accessible digital resource for elementary and high school students. We want to encourage our students to establish connections between historical knowledge, the present time and the construction of a fairer future for all.

The present report aims to present the history of the Campaign of Kilo, a movement linked to the spiritist community, that emerged in Recife in 1946 with the commitment to collect and distribute food and money for maintenance of the shelters of elderly and orphanages linked to existing spiritist organizations in the capital. The research was based on primary sources, mainly minutes of meetings, statutes, internal regulations, photographs, posters and statements arranged in spiritist books. Newspapers such as: Diário da Noite, Diário da Manhã and Diario de Pernambuco were also analyzed. The applied historiographic bias speaks with the theme of hunger, collective memory and urban behavior and for such was visited the historiography arranged in articles, dissertations, theses and books, marked with theorists Josué de Castro, Jacques Le Goff, Maurice Halbwachws, Michel de Certeau and François Dosse. As a result of the study, an illustrated and interactive dissemination book was developed in ebook format, which aims to provide the disclosure of the history of the Campaign of the Kilo in Recife for students and researchers of as well as for the Campaign practitioners in Pernambuco and other regions of the country.

Patrimônio gastronômico de Pernambuco: memórias contemporâneas “desse povo coberto de glória”.
(Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, 2025-02-21) Calixto, Georgia Queiroga Capistrano; Santos, Ana Cláudia de Araújo; Souza, Leandro Nascimento de; Silva, Maria do Rosário da; Ribeiro, Emanuela Sousa
This study deals with the maintenance of culture through the transmission of knowledge and ways of doing things as an integral part of the intangible cultural heritage of the state of Pernambuco. Within a historical-cultural process, the work presents a vision that consecrates the transmission of ancestral cultures transmitted between generations as a way of preserving and perpetuating individual and collective flavors, stories and memories. It addresses aspects of the preparation, curiosities and customs related to cakes in the history of food, their reminiscences and evolution. It is entitled “Gastronomic Heritage of Pernambuco: contemporary memories of this “people covered in glory”” and highlights as a research problem the contribution of legal mechanisms to foster cultural apprehension and the consequent transmission of gastronomic traditions in a descriptive approach that seeks to qualitatively analyze the issue through the survey of bibliographic data and academic content, in addition to using the keywords “gastronomic heritage”, “memory” and “wedding cake” to delimit the theme. The main objective of this study is to analyze how the educational approach to gastronomic heritage contributes to encouraging the transmission and appreciation of these examples to future generations. To successfully address these issues, it seeks to identify, in three specific objectives, how strategies for recovering gastronomic memory and practices are passed down between generations, investigating whether legal mechanisms are capable of promoting the proper representation, safeguarding, and appreciation of this intangible heritage. It also aims to classify educational perspectives, combining gastronomic theory and practices with culture and memory, to preserve and give visibility to the state heritage collection among professionals, students, and enthusiasts of the topic at hand. In preparing this work, the author's experience in the gastronomic area was taken into account, as well as the narratives and family experiences of the pastry chefs in her family – the Queiroga Family – in the preparation and creation of examples of local gastronomy and confectionery, providing skill and affinities regarding the practices, procedures, and ways of making the highlighted examples. To conclude the research, a Gastronomic Cultural Catalog will be presented as a contribution to the dissemination, continuity and appreciation of flavors and knowledge of Pernambuco's gastronomic culture, highlighting the Pernambuco Wedding Cake, its recognition and registration as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Pernambuco.

The research to create a map of torture sites in the city of Recife was conducted within the context of the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985), a period marked by political repression, the suspension of civil rights, and the systematic persecution of opponents, especially those with communist ideologies. During this time, the State used torture and other violent methods as instruments of social control, resulting in severe human rights violations. In addition to mapping these sites, the research aimed to understand the functioning of these repressive spaces, where individuals were subjected to physical and psychological violence. The methodology included analyzing testimonies and information from the reports of the National Truth Commission (CNV) and the Dom Helder Câmara State Truth and Memory Commission (CEMVDHC), as well as other historiographical sources. The research also drew on theoretical reflections by Paul Ricoeur, who explores the relationship between memory and forgetting in the process of historical construction; Carlo Ginzburg, whose micro-historical approach allows for a detailed analysis of everyday repressive practices; and Michel Foucault, who provides a critical analysis of power and social control, essential for understanding the mechanisms of surveillance and torture institutionalized during the military regime. Michel de Certeau, with his distinction between space and place, was also crucial in highlighting how torture sites, although controlled by the State, were transformed by practices of repression and resistance, becoming significant in the construction of collective memory. As a result, the magazine Memórias das Sombras was created, aimed at 3rd-year high school students, with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of critically reflecting on the consequences of a regime characterized by violence and human rights violations.

(Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, 2024-09-30) Lima, Maristela Maria da Conceição Pimenta de; Silva, Maria do Rosário da; Amorim, Helder Remigio de; Nascimento, Arthur Gustavo Lira do
Cinema São Luiz, located in the center of Recife, is a facility for presentations and artistic and cultural expressions, especially feature-length cinematographic works. In this research, the history of this cinema is discussed, opened in 1952 and operating uninterruptedly until 2007, when, in the following year, it was made patrimonial by the Government of Pernambuco, as it was considered a place of expression of Pernambuco culture, present in sociocultural and cultural life and representative of the identity and collective memory of Recife residents. This cinema became a space dedicated to showing films, holding cultural events and audiovisual festivals, a place for exchanging ideas and experiences and providing diversity and accessibility, demonstrating the importance of cultural practices and representations in Pernambuco. Given this importance, this research aims to record the history of Cinema São Luiz through the investigation of its trajectory, taking as a time frame the period from 2007 to 2019. It is based on articles from the main newspapers circulating in the State of Pernambuco and the websites that covered events shown at the aforementioned cinema. This study will provide, as a product, a digital memorial, reporting the history of this cinema, as well as the main films and festivals that took place in this space after its patrimonialization.

This research aims to analyze the consumption and marketing of tea in the city of Recife during the first half of the 19th century. Tea is an oriental product that arrived in the West during the historical period of maritime navigation. In Brazil, its commercialization increased from 1808, when there was also an incentive to plant it. This was a time when there was an important process of socio-cultural transformation in the country, which also led to the incorporation of new habits, including the consumption of tea. Recife became a major consumer of this product, which arrived via the city's port. Tea, previously restricted to the elite, ended up becoming popular in Recife. It was a product that was constantly advertised and sold in Recife's stores and/or warehouses, botequins and casas de pasto. The theoretical basis of this research was Norbert Elias' “Civilizing Process”, as well as others, in order to analyse socio-cultural aspects that could also be seen in the behaviour of Recife's residents at the time. In addition to studying theories, the methodology included cross-referencing journalistic sources, available in the digital library, with the newspapers Diário de Pernambuco, O Cruzeiro and Carapuceiro, as they were the most widespread news outlets in the city during the period studied. The analysis of the information collected showed that tea was a high-cost product, consumed by part of the population and imported from China. In addition, an e-book was produced with the aim of disseminating the knowledge acquired to those interested in history and culture, as well as spreading the consumption of tea as a drink.

Between the years 1960 to 1986, a period that involved, according to researchers of Western Esotericism, the New Era, one of the ways that esoteric thought spread in Brazil was through newspapers. In the city of Recife/PE, it was common to see articles in the newspapers Diário de Pernambuco and Diário da Manhã talking about esoteric orders in the city, such as Rosicrucianism, Círculo Esoterico da Comunhão do Pensamento, Teosofia and Eubiose, as well as comments about famous esotericists , like Helena Blavatsky and Papus. So we can say that we have a very rich and explored scenario in what researcher Diego Chaves called an “Esoteric Recife”. In this sense, our research aims to analyze the trajectory of the Brazilian Society of Eubiosis and Western Esoterism and its representations in the city of Recife, with regard to the way in which the media referred to the Eubiotic Order and the curious aspects of esotericism and how the representations were treated, in addition to the dimension that the subject took to the general public. This project is theoretically based on authors and researchers on Western Esotericism and the New Era, such as Elaine Moura, Amurabi Pereira, Silas Guerriero, Diego Chaves, Magnólia Silva and José Guilherme Magnani, as well as prominent writers in the area such as Antoine Faivre and Wouter Hanegraaff, essential for understanding the subject.

(Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, 2024-08-23) Pereira, Cássia Xavier; Silva, Maria do Rosário da; Amorim, Helder Remigio de; Miranda, Humberto da Silva
The purpose of this research was to analyze how the Alto da Mina Chamber Orchestra (OCAM) reverberates in the daily life of the community, especially in relation to children and adolescents who participate in its activities and live in a state of social vulnerability. Methodologically, a case study was developed, through interviews and documentary analysis, aiming to better understand the experiences that children and young people were able to obtain through involvement in music. To aim that, documentation from the personal collections of individuals and legal entities that took part in the research were used, as well as official documents, made available in official gazettes and newspapers with large circulation in the state of Pernambuco. A chronological framework (from 2015 to 2022) was delimited in the research to delimit the field of study of OCAM based on the History of the Present Time, seeking, with this, to identify issues afflicting minors in the Alto do Mina community through the narrative of a story that takes place in the real lives of the residents of Alto do Mina. As a result, it was identified how the work developed by OCAM can have a positive impact on performance in formal (school) education, or on a better exercise of everyday citizenship. A memorial was created in PDF format as a product of the research, intended for dissemination, whose target audience ranges from community members to children and young people as possible supporters of OCAM.

The present work aims to analyze the Recife Women's Penal Colony and its history, through the newspaper Diario de Pernambuco, between the years 1973 and 1986, resulting in the construction of an almanac, which will be distributed to the general public. During this period, prison reform took place in the State of Pernambuco, starting with the deactivation of the Recife detention house and the creation of new penitentiaries. As for incarcerated women, the place where the sentence of deprivation of liberty was served continued to be, during the period, the Recife Women's Penal Colony, located on Rua do Bom Pastor in the Engenho do Meio neighborhood. These prisoners were normally represented by an example of good conduct while serving their sentence. Thus, punishment was mixed with morality, as the so-called “reeducandes” had to avoid emotional involvement between them, in addition to the prohibition of receiving intimate visits. From the point of view of resocialization policy, there was also a defense of professional training for prisoners for domestic activities. We had authors such as Carlos Aguirre, Roger Chartier, Ângela Artur, Dário Melossi, Michel Foucault and Tânia de Luca as a theoretical foundation. The methodology will involve a critical analysis of incidents published in the newspaper Diario de Pernambuco.

(Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, 2024-04-01) Peixoto, Maria Lúcia de Carvalho Viana; Cesar, Tiago da Silva; Cabral, Flávio José Gomes; Albuquerque Neto, Flavio de Sá Cavalcanti de
Incarceration is a secular problem in many ways, and Brazil is one of the countries with the largest prison population in the world. This report describes the path taken for the realization of the research whose objective was the renovation and expansion of Saloá’s Public Jail, that ocurred between 2009-2010, involving members of the local comunity and the cities of Águas Belas, Iati and Paranatama. As the main theoretical reference, Michel Foucault was chosen, in “Discipline and punish: birth of prison”, to help understand the topic regarding the modern penal system and the laws for its application according to changes in power relations. The research method used was an inductive type, through qualitative research, with direct and indirect documentation, through bibliographic and documentary research - written and iconographic. As a result of the research, we produced an e-book in which we discuss, in addition to the reform process itself, with issues relating to the growth of prisons in Europe and Brazil, topics concerning education and its importance in the process of reinserting prisoners into society, and, also, as occurred during and through the reform, the search for rescuing the human dignity of the prison population and for the real chance of reinsertion of the detainees.

(Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, 2024-03-20) Peixoto, Pedro Fernando Viana; Santos, Lídia Rafaela Nascimento dos; Amaral, Walter Valdevino do; Salles, André Mendes
The present work demonstrates the analysis developed to rescue memories that could evoke the circumstances and dynamics that made up the Festa da Santa Quitéria de Frexeiras, Garanhuns-PE, in the time frame 1880-1931. In the historiographic process, the interconnection between religiosity, culture, arts and the recreational and profane practices in the context of festive celebrations was analyzed, in addition to the dynamics and mystiques experienced by pilgrims through rituals and symbols demonstrating faith. It also examines the dispute between the family that owned the image of the saint and the local diocese, for control of the Festa da Santa Quitéria de Frexeiras in the context of the romanization process of the Catholic Church. Historical and comparative research methods were used, with indirect documentation procedures through bibliographical research, written documentary and iconographic research, collected especially in the virtual environment. The theoretical concepts covered were discussed essentially based on studies of Michel de Certeau, Jacques Le Goff, Émile Durkheim, Anthony Giddens, Eric Hobsbawm and Pierre Nora. As a final product, a scientific popularization book was produced, avaliable as an e-book, aimed at a general public and produced with accessible language, whose contents combines texts and images to promote fluid reading.

Data collection and analysis supported the con-struction of the historical narrative, in which the nature of its object is within the scope of qual-itative research, having an interpretative and subjective nature of approximations with qualita-tive epistemology and constructive methodology. interpretative. Thus, the aim is to bring un-derstanding about the memory of cultural heritage, to describe and explain, through iconogra-phy, the architectural records of European style, over the decades, through the analysis of texts by historians referring to the São Paulo Market. This research is about criminal proceeding that deal with murder of landowner and captives Manoel Ledo de Lima, commited in july 1859, in Villa Bella, Pernambuco, Brazil. The sources that we will use in this investigation are the laws currents in the período indicated, the nerspapers, the process of the enslaved Thomaz (used as a paradigm) and the criminal case in which the enslaved Balbino was accused. As for theory and methodology, we use the teachings of James C. Scott, Marc Bloch, Carlo Ginzburg, among others. The research intends to study the criminal process in comment. It is necessary, in the comparison of these sources, to take into account beyond what is written in them. It is also necessary to perceive the sociocultural context in which the enslaved are immersed, because, as he warns Arlette Farge, in the processes, men are not fully analyzed, but only crystallized in disturbing social facts (FARGE, 2009, p. 32). For this, research will be developed,in the inductive method, from, in addition to the sources in question, of the historiographical discussion, allowing the perception of the political nature of judicial decisions, consistent in elite readings of slavery, and also the vulnerability of some defendants by reason of their miserable state.
