This study analyzed the use of Artificial Intelligence within the Criminal Chambers of the Court of Justice of Pernambuco, focusing on the impacts of this technology on judicial decision-making by criminal appellate judges, particularly regarding the tension between procedural efficiency and legal certainty. Initially, the research examined the early stages of the Electronic Judicial Process, which contributed to the expansion of AI-based tools within the Brazilian Judiciary. The theoretical, normative, and ethical foundations guiding this incorporation were analyzed in light of resolutions issued by the National Council of Justice, international regulations, and specialized literature. The study adopted an applied and exploratory methodology, using a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach, based on documentary, normative, and doctrinal analysis, combined with an empirical survey conducted with criminal appellate judges and their clerks at the Court of Justice of Pernambuco. The findings indicate that AI has already been integrated into routine judicial practice, mainly as a support tool for information organization, draft preparation, and precedent identification, with particular emphasis on the recent MAIA tool, developed through institutional cooperation between PPGD/Unicap, the Court of Justice of Pernambuco, and the University of Pernambuco. However, relevant concerns were identified regarding the risks of algorithmic bias, hallucinations, decisional opacity, and potential impairment of judicial reasoning. In response to this scenario, a technical product was developed in the form of an ebook-style guide, aimed at assisting judges and clerks in the responsible, ethical, and secure use of Artificial Intelligence in criminal adjudication, reaffirming the central role of human oversight as an indispensable condition for the legitimacy of judicial decisions.
