This dissertation aims to present the connection between the metaphysical
doctrine of divine simplicity and the doctrine that deals with the foundation of
objective moral values in the philosophical thought of Thomas Aquinas. To
achieve this objective, after presenting, in general lines, the life and work of our
author, an expository comment was made on the third question of the first part
of the Summa Theologica, where we find a family of arguments in favor of the
idea that God does not have and cannot have composition of any kind, that is,
that the divine being is absolutely simple or that he cannot have any
composition, whether material or spiritual, of essence and existence, or of any
order. Then, we present the relationship of all this with moral values and
human acts, indicating that divine simplicity serves as the foundation for the
immutable and necessary character of moral values, and that God, as the first
cause of all good, is also the ultimate cause of all good human action.
A presente dissertação visa apresentar a conexão entre a doutrina metafísica
da simplicidade divina com a doutrina que trata do fundamento dos valores
morais objetivos no pensamento filosófico de Tomás de Aquino. Para atingir tal
objetivo, foi feito, após apresentarmos, em linhas gerais, a vida e a obra do
nosso autor, um comentário expositivo à questão terceira da primeira parte da
Suma Teológica, onde encontramos uma família de argumentos em favor da
ideia de que Deus não tem e nem pode ter composição de nenhuma espécie,
ou seja, que o ser divino é absolutamente simples ou que não pode ter
qualquer composição, seja material ou espiritual, de essência e existência, ou
de qualquer ordem. Em seguida, apresentamos a relação de tudo isso com os
valores morais e os atos humanos, indicando que a simplicidade divina serve
de fundamento para o caráter imutável e necessário dos valores morais, e que
Deus, por ser causa primeira de todo bem, é também causa última de toda
boa ação humana.
